Meet Christopher Kaindl, our Head of Warehouse Operations who joined us in 2018 - no more than two months after our launch in Stockholm. Having recently finished his studies, he heard about Voi from a friend and joined as the first person on the ground in Germany.

Chris - tell us about your Voiage so far!

I started off as an Operations Manager in 2018. This was before e-scooters were legalised in Germany, so the first nine months were essentially dedicated to meetings with cities, introducing Voi and figuring out how to build and launch a scooter service that complies with the German e-scooter regulation.

Voi was the first operator to launch, but competition was fierce and we had to scale fast, so I took the role of Regional Operations Manager, focusing on setting up operations across southern Germany and Switzerland. Then I ended up going to Norway for six months to run operations, where the challenges were completely different.

For the past year, I’ve been a part of setting up supply chain and inventory management across global operations, and now as Head of Warehouse Operations, I focus on strategy, product and operations to establish efficient and industrialised warehouses. 

That's quite a journey! Thanks for sharing. Now - what's your fondest Voi memory?

It was Friday, June 21, 2019, to be exact. At 12:06 pm, we got approval to launch our scooters, and I called the Berlin team screaming GO, GO, GO. I got to Berlin as fast as I could to be part of the launch. It was amazing to see people riding around on Vois for the first time, seeing that all the hard work paid off.

What a moment! Now - what do you do when you’re not working?

This past year I’ve gotten really into endurance sports, specifically triathlons. During lockdown, the gyms were closed but outside sports were still available. At work, I challenge my mind, and in sports I get to challenge my body.

What else did you do during lockdown?

My roommates and I played a lot of music, we even started having concerts for our neighbours. I play the guitar but I’ve also learned to play the handpan, it’s something I found on youtube and decided to give it a go.

What’s something not many people know about you?

When I’m off from work, I like to get as far away from my day-to-day routine as possible. Last year, I took four weeks off to go to Patagonia to hike through the Andes by myself. I walked 600 km, with no cell phone connection, sleeping in a tent and solely focusing on the basic needs of food, water, and where to sleep. It’s a great feeling to be completely logged off from the outside world.
