#EmployeeVoices - Head of Product
As our Head of Product, Ginger Lohman is at the forefront of developing and improving our services. In today's #EmployeeVoices, we'll learn more about what she does on a day-to-day basis, how she measures product success, the song she'd pick to describe her experience working at Voi, and more. Let's tune in!
Tell us more about what you do as our Head of Product?
As Head of Product at Voi I support our extremely talented product managers alongside the rest of our product teams in leading development across our service. Most of our work revolves around aggregating and prioritising requests to align with business goals, defining new features, and communicating with key stakeholders and customers.
What's the best part about your job?
Hands-down the most exciting part of my job is seeing a product team unleash on a big challenge or work through discovery on something completely new. Witnessing the creative process first-hand in a well-established quartette really is a thing of beauty and you come out of the workshop or meeting feeling so positive and energised, it’s absolutely addictive.
How do you measure the success of a product?
At a super high level the measurements for any product or feature are usually pretty simple - did you solve the problem, did you drive the change you were hoping to drive - something like that. But high-level yes/no isn’t going to help us iterate anything so we typically release a new feature or product with an understanding of very specific KPIs we want to see move alongside standard release KPIs like uptake and usage. I come from a hardware background and one metric that I was introduced to at Voi was the stickiness of a feature. If one of our customers tries it once, do they come back to the feature, do they come back often? I love that, such a great measurement of whether we’ve built something people like/value or not.
If you could pick one song or movie to describe your experience working at Voi, what would it be?
Eye of the Tiger! 🐅
What other role within the company would you be most interested in trying out for a day, and why?
Marketing! (Aside from the fact that our Head of Marketing Caroline Hjelm is probably the kindest soul you’ll ever come across so how could I not want to spend a day with her and her dogs)... It just looks so fun and creative. I’d love to work on a great local marketing campaign - dream day.
What do you do in your spare time?
I’m hard pressed to find a lot of spare time these days but when I do I spend it with my husband and daughter LuLu who at 20 months old dramatically refuses to eat anything that is not a bottle… so that’s a solid 80% of my non-work life at the moment… mom things no one prepares you for.
