Applied AI Engineer
YOUR MISSION AT VOI
As the Applied AI Engineer, you will play an important role in unlocking the potential of Gen AI throughout our organisation. Your hands-on approach and focus on applying Gen AI to address real-world challenges will be key in driving innovation and efficiency. This role offers a platform for you to make a significant impact, with the freedom to execute on our Gen AI strategy, discover high-value applications, and take lead on technical implementation.
Imagine building transformative solutions like implementing real-time actions based on rider feedback from the app or creating a diagnosis and repairs co-pilot for mechanics and in-field workers. These are just a glimpse of the exciting and impactful projects you will spearhead in this role, shaping the way we leverage AI technology. This will include:
- Developing frameworks and tooling that make it easier for R&D teams to integrate Gen AI into products.
- Designing and building pragmatic, production-ready Gen AI solutions for various business use cases.
- Working with teams across the company to understand their challenges and apply AI where it creates real value.
- Balancing innovation with practicality, ensuring we use the right AI tools for the job rather than chasing the latest trends.
- Ensuring solutions are scalable, cost-efficient, and secure, following best practices for deploying AI in production.
- Staying up to date with the rapidly evolving AI landscape and helping define our AI adoption strategy.
WHAT YOU NEED TO EMBARK
To have the best possible start with us, we believe you have:
- Strong software engineering background, ideally in backend or ML development and system integration.
- Proven experience using Gen AI/LLM technologies in production (e.g., OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, vector databases, RAG, AI agents).
- Curiosity and pragmatism – you focus on delivering value, not just exploring technology.
- Experience building AI-powered applications that integrate with real-world systems.
- Ability to work autonomously, define your own roadmap, and drive projects forward.
- Strong collaboration skills – comfortable working with technical and non-technical teams alike.
